Helping students discover new ways to earn credit and reduce college costs has earned UCF’s University Testing Center (UTC) national recognition.
On Sept. 17, UCF received the Outstanding Program/Innovation Award from the National College Testing Association at its 27th annual conference in Sacramento, California. The award recognized the University Testing Center’s Accelerated Progression: Awareness = Impact initiative, which helps students use CLEP exams and Modern States resources to earn credit, save money, and advance toward their degrees.
The UTC team partnered with Academic Success Coaches (ASC), Undergraduate Admissions, and colleagues across campus to bring credit-by-exam options into academic planning conversations and student engagement events. Through expanded outreach, educational resources, and data-informed improvements, the team helped more students understand and explore these opportunities.
During the assessment period, CLEP registrations increased 44%, and completed exams increased 52%. ASCs became the most frequently reported referral source for CLEP participants, and 89 UCF students used Modern States vouchers for free testing. Students’ estimated tuition savings totaled $336,000.
UTC also participated in 11 outreach events that reached more than 7,400 people, with more than 1,000 engaging directly with testing center staff.
Congratulations to the UTC team and its campus partners for helping students earn credit, reduce costs, and make progress toward graduation!
